Downhill to the End
At the end of a long and challenging event everybody could relax. The cars, displayed on the promenade for the final time, were greatly appreciated by those out enjoying the afternoon sunshine, even if after an exhausting day full of challenges, some crews chose not to linger.
Regularities, Tests and a Tense Finish in Prospect
The courtyard at Caer Rhun Hall played host to an eclectic collection of cars - everything from the oldest to the youngest in the rally crowded into one or other of the car parks.
Entirely new to the Three Castles Rally, the test at Golden Grove was bedevilled by a slippery surface that upset several competitors attempts to stop astride the finishing line.
Portmeirion village once more provided an entertaining destination for an excellent rally lunch. Those walking down to the quayside hotel enjoyed a full picture of the eccentric Italianate village familiar to TV viewers of a certain age.
Early Arrivals at the Theatre Clwyd lunch halt parked outside the new building which offered a fine view of the hills opposite from the terrace on the first floor. The weather had improved again changing to sunshine just as it had during the coffee halt at Tower.
Gloomy skies and light drizzle did not dampen spirits at the start of day one. Shaun Harborne and Mike Cochrane are the first away in the much travelled 1924 Red Label Bentley, the flag wielded by the chairman of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team, the 2026 Three Castles charity.
The weather got progressively kinder as the day went on, the skies clearing and the sunshine returning the feel of summer. This was the view from the battlements of Gwrych Castle looking down towards the start of the test, which some found more of a challenge than others.
Mostyn Hall provided a welcome respite for competitors, a chance to draw breath and perhaps meet the Three Castles Club President, Lord Mostyn who was interested to see the cars and speak to their owners.
